How To Color Riley

Hi Riley Fans!

Riley and Company and the Design Team often get asked how they color the Riley and/or Sophie Images. So today we have decided to share with you, how our Design Team members color these.

These are just some suggestions, but I am sure there are many other ways to color Riley and/or Sophie as well. The key is to play and go with what works for you.

Copics

Joy Stagg uses copics to color in her Riley image above. For the head and body: E37 Sepia, E35 Chamois, E33 Sand, E31 Brick Beige. For Antlers and Hooves: E59 Walnut

Frances Byrne also uses copics to color in Riley. Frances starts with E30 for the nose area and then colors the rest of the body with E31. Next she uses E33 and E34 to add shadows and then blends with E30. For the Hooves and Antlers Frances uses E27

Vera Yates uses Copics to color in Riley as per the card above. For the face & body Vera used E50, E51, E31 and RV000. Antler E31. Hooves W3, shadow BG70.

Kendra DeCota gives Sophie a girly look by coloring with Copics and using pinks for her antlers and hooves.  For her dress and pom-poms Kendra used R32, R37, and R30.
For her body Kendra used E35 and E47. For the antlers Kendra used R30 again, and W1 to go around the whole image.

Sandye Curry also uses copics to color in Riley. For the body Sandye uses E31, E33, and E35. For the antlers she use E37 or E57. The different thing that Sandye says she does is to color as if the sun is hitting on one side only (rather than outline with darker colors). Sandye shades the colors then so that darkest are on one side fading to lighter on the other side.

Kerin Sylvester always colors Riley with E31, E33, E35, E37, E59. Today Kerin has a step by step tutorial on her blog on how she colors Riley.

 Prismacolor Markers

Kelly Santi uses Prismacolor markers - Kelly started with Pale Peach, and Light Peach (his cheeks/nose) and used Sand or Light Tan (for the body) and Mocha Dark and Light Umber for the hooves

Pencils

Stephanie Serrano uses Prismacolor pencils and KOH-I-NOOR Woodless pencils. For body Stephanie used PC941 Light Umber and PC 943 Burnt Ochre. Hooves and Antlers are PC946 Dark brown, Robe is Koh-I-noor black and sunburst yellow.

Ink and Blender Pens

Heather Bolli  used her Stampin Up ink and blender pens. Riley's body is done with Crumb Cake and some Soft Suede highlights. His antlers and hoofs are done with Chocolate Chip.
